I am here to have a good time (ie: cry scream have a meltdown over the silly little fictional people I'm emotionally attached to) - I'm mainly active on Tumblr but have decided to check it out over here as well - at the moment I'm moving over all of my web weaves/gif sets etc... so that they're archived!

I mostly just talk about the Silmarillion these days and plan on doing a third re-read of it relatively soon in which I take notes, so I'll probably make that everybody else's problem as well.

Important: I'm 100% pro-shipper / don't like; don't read / ship and let ship / your kink is not my kink and that's okay

I noticed there wasn't a community really dedicated just to chatting about the Silmarillion! Apart from the Silmarillion Writer's Guild but that's a very specific vibe and not quite what I was looking for. So, here we are!

Some things to post about: fic recs, meta, memes, rambles about a character inviting other people to comment and talk with you about it!

Postcolonial Love Poem by Natalie Diaz

I’ve been taught bloodstones can cure a snakebite,
can stop the bleeding — most people forgot this
when the war ended. The war ended
depending on which war you mean: those we started,
before those, millenia ago and onward,
those which started me, which I lost and won —
    these ever-blooming wounds.
I was built by wage. So I wage love and worse—
always another campaign to march across
a desert night for the cannon flash of your pale skin
settling in a silver lagoon of smoke at your breast.
I dismount my dark horse, bend to you there, deliver you
the hard pull of all my thirsts—
I learned Drink in a country of drought.Read more... )

This is for Day 2 of the Fannish 50! I'm genuinely obsessed with anything time loop/travel related so I figured I'd gather up a bunch of my favorites!

Most of them are under cuts but I left one for each fandom out to lure you in. I apparently only have one rec for BBC Merlin which seems wrong but I cannot for the life of me find any others I've saved so.

He expects to open his eyes, metaphorically speaking, in the Halls of Mandos. That is where the dead go, after all, and after being killed by Morgoth he is indisputably dead. And after the unbearable weight and pain of the last few centuries, he finds himself almost looking forward to the supposed peace of it.

He is therefore moderately bewildered when he finds himself awakening in Barad Eithel.

The up-side of being unceremoniously shoved seventy-nine (approximately) years into his past, Bilbo mused, was that at least he got the chance to murder his stupid adorable husband before, and also because, he went and got himself killed. Or... something.

In which Bilbo is pretty sure this is all Elrond's fault but is determined to see the hallucination through, and Thorin is just confused.

We wait till he blows up another super secret facility whose mysteriously undocumented existence doesn’t make me suspicious at all?”

“Germany!” Rogers blurts out, interrupting Tony’s epic stare-down with Fury.

    Sonnet 7 by Terrance Hayes

I lock you in an American sonnet that is part prison,
Part panic closet, a little room in a house set aflame.
I lock you in a form that is part music box, part meat
Grinder to separate the song of the bird from the bone.
I lock your persona in a dream-inducing sleeper hold
While your better selves watch from the bleachers.
I make you both gym & crow here. As the crow
You undergo a beautiful catharsis trapped one night
In the shadows of the gym. As the gym, the feel of crow-
Shit dropping to your floors is not unlike the stars
Falling from the pep rally posters on your walls.
I make you a box of darkness with a bird in its heart.
Voltas of acoustics, instinct & metaphor. It is not enough
To love you. It is not enough to want you destroyed.

Oh, so many haha. I have a handful right now that I have re-read an almost embarassing number of times and wish I could leave kudos on every time. But I gotta sit down and do my analyzing paragraph sometime instead to like properly show my love for the fic!

The most infuriating thing lately is how my brain is still going 5000 miles an hour thinking about the Silmarillion and it will just hand me this perfectly scripted, scene blocked fic idea - like just a perfect scroll unrolling in my mind - i know half the characters line their motivations etc and I sit down and go to write and we get about three-quarters of the way through and then [radio static noises] like oh how does it end you ask? yes i’d love to fucking know that too…..so then I gotta grit my teeth and fight for my life to finish the damn thing 😭

Also the way I have this series with two parts and I’m trying to write either the prequel or part 3 and my brain is like hey have you considered like part 7 though? And yes I have actually but we're not there yet.

Woke up this morning and quite literally the first thing I did, half-asleep, before even getting out of my bed, was google “can you combine two languages linguistics” because I woke up thinking about Fëanor and what kind of nonsense he might get up to in 4th Age Aman and was like damn I wonder if he would improve Sindarin just to annoy Thingol or combine it with Quenya or - anyway apparently that’s not a thing and I read an interesting article on what happens when two communities with different native languages combine but still - what a way to start the day.

Dior's bitter he can't just murder Celegorm. After all, he's not one of the eldar, it doesn't count as kinslaying if he does it.

Nimloth's impressed no one is dead yet and plans on keeping it that way for as long as possible.

“Dior, son of Luthien,” Námo intones, “you do not belong in these halls. I will show you the way to where your path is meant to lead.”

Celegorm looks to Dior and tilts his head in curiosity at the defiant look being directed at Námo. “No,” Dior says, voice hard. “I feel no call to follow the path of men. I will stay in the halls with my kin.”

“I was not presenting it as a choice,” Námo says severely and Celegorm frowns. Sees Curufin across the room shaking his head and gesturing for Celegorm to join him. He thinks to but then looks at Dior again and gets distracted by the look on his face.

An animal backed into a corner, his mind supplies, glancing down at the way Dior’s fingers are beginning to press into Celegorm’s fëa from how hard he is gripping Celegorm’s wrist.

Dior bares his teeth. “I was not either."

The whispers that circulate through Tirion afterwards, throughout all of Aman, will be cruel. She had gotten overconfident, they say, she should have known that Finwë’s line was cursed. The whispers never stop circulating but everyone learns very quickly that no matter how Prince Fëanáro had felt about Queen Indis to say such a thing within earshot of him was to earn his everlasting ire.

But Fëanor was not held guiltless, for he it was that had broken the peace of Valinor and drawn his sword upon his kinsman; and Mandos said to him: “Thou speakest of thraldom. If thraldom it be, thou canst not escape it; for Manwë is King of Arda, and not of Aman only. And this deed was unlawful, whether in Aman or not in Aman. Therefore this doom is now made: for twelve years thou shalt leave Tirion where this threat was uttered. In that time take counsel with thyself, and remember who and what thou art. But after that time this matter shall be set in peace and held redressed, if others will release thee.”

"Do you enjoy dying then," Fëanor snaps, twisting to glare at him. "Because that is all you are accomplishing by yourself."

"Do not delude yourself into believing that you could have done better—" the words spill out of him, quick and viscous and covered in venom "—don't forget you died first and left me the mess to clean up. You—" he cuts himself off sharply. This Fëanor has done nothing yet he viciously reminds himself. You, he had been about to say, burned the boats and left us and if we had not been so foolhardy as to brave the Helcaraxë then Maedhros would have died or hung there another century and Maglor would have been High King which would have led to no victories at all.

The moment they are in Fëanor's workshop with the door closed Fëanor turns on him and demands, "Explain. Why have you decided to do something so monumentally difficult so suddenly?"

He does not, Fingolfin notes, say monumentally stupid, or even, you cannot kill a Vala. Only why something so difficult as if it is a given he could kill a Vala given enough thought. Fëanor’s eyebrows shoot up as he surveys the design. “This is a weapon,” he says slowly, pinning Fingolfin with a piercing gaze. “What on Arda could you need a weapon for? And with such urgency.”
