Day 1: Fanfic Reading Meme

Saw cyare do this and it looked fun! This is for Day 1 of the Fannish 50!

1: Are there any fics that you wanted to leave multiple kudos for, and were disappointed when you could only leave one?

Oh, so many haha. I have a handful right now that I have re-read an almost embarassing number of times and wish I could leave kudos on every time. But I gotta sit down and do my analyzing paragraph sometime instead to like properly show my love for the fic!

2: Coffeeshop AU or soulmate AU?

Soulmate AU everytime hands down <3 there's so many fun ways to do it and I happily eat every single one up

3: Slowburn or established relationship?

Slowburn!! I like reading the established relationship after I've screamed at the for twenty chapters to get their shit together haha it makes it so much more satisfying fo rme.

4: Has a fic ever made you cry?

Ah. Yes. Quite often tbh though a lot of the time it's not like full tears just me agressively tearing up and fighting for my life - the last one that really had me sitting there tears running down my face was what this darkness cannot swallow, it must spit out by Dialux and it was the most stunning exploration of grief and absolutely destroyed me

5: What category of fics do you read the most? (angst, fluff, etc)

Angst my beloved <3 if they're not suffering and miserable first then what's the point - I do read fluff sometimes! But I usually go for angst before everything else

6: What’s your least favourite fanfic category?

Uhh I don't…know? By category do we mean genre? I'm trying so hard to think of one and I mean I don't really enjoy science fiction AU's - and I honestly don't read many modern AU's - so I guess those two.

7: Would you rather read a plot-focused fic or PWP?

Oof. Both? I would like my PWP to have a plot haha but honestly it depends on the day and the mood!

8: How many private bookmarks do you have?

27! And it's just all fics I have bookmarked from the HP fandom that I don't necessarily want to be associated with my account but am unwilling to actually take out of my bookmarks because it is!! good writing!!

9: What are your favourite ships to read fics for?

Ohhhh okay - this varies from month to month but let's see

Silmarillion: I think I have to say Maedhros x Fingon & Caranthir x Haleth - though I do have a bunch of tabs open for Fëanor x Fingolfin

Merlin: Arthur x Merlin <3 and 100% Gwen x Morgana <3

Stranger Things: Steve x Nancy x Jonathan (my end game ride or die ship) & I like Steve x Billy & Steve x Eddie & Robin x Nancy

Marvel: Steve x Tony all day every day - Sam x Bucky <3 - Steve x Natasha! Clint x Coulson!

10: Have/would you read a reader-insert fic?

I do not read reader-insert fics - no shade to anyone who likes them but they're completely un-interesting to me

11: Ever read guilty pleasure fics?

I'm not really sure what counts as a guilty pleasure? I mean all my fics are kind of guilty pleasure fics haha though I guess maybe when I go through phases where I binge HP fic that could be counted?

12: First-person or third person fics?

Always third person - I'll rarely even read first-person in published fiction - I just don't really care for it

13: Do you read author’s notes usually?

Always! there's fun notes in there! Sometimes I even go scrolling through the comments to see what fun tidbits the author has dropped in there!

14: What’s your favourite AU setting?

I don't know that I really have one? I assume we mean like coffee shop, modern etc… I like time travel/time loop AU's & soulmate AU's - but as far as setting I prefer to stay in the canon setting

15: Do you usually leave comments on chapters/fics?

i try! I'm admittably not as good at it as I'd like to be - probably cause i hold myself to an unreasonable comment standard tbh I have the AO3 add-on that lets you have a hovering comment box as you read & I like to copy-paste quotes as I read and leave my thoughts which…I simply can't do for every fic :( but I'm trying to leave more general hey i loved this comments so!

16: Fix-it fics or AU fics?

Fix-it fics <3 really love fix-its where it's actually break it different but somehow its still better than canon…. RIP

17: Canon-compliant or canon, what canon?

hmmm canon-compliant to a point - but at the end of the day canon is my playground and I'll do whatever I want thanks <3

18: Have you ever read fics you would not confess to reading?

Haven't we all? (If you say no I don't believe you)

19: Undercover AU or college AU?

Undercover AU (though I don't think I"ve read many of these) - college AU's don't do much for me (though I have read some good ones in the Merlin fandom!)

20: What something that immediately makes you exit out of a fic?

Bad formatting - god bless peace and love I'd love to read it but if I click in and it's one giant block of text I'm out - also saw one once where the entire fic was centered?? and I clicked out so fast :/

Sometimes I even go scrolling through the comments to see what fun tidbits the author has dropped in there!
Me too! I've found some hidden gems there, hehe ^_^

That sure is a decision o_o I want to meet the author and ask them why XD
